Strategic Planning: What it is and is not

We understand that Strategic Planning is not a “one-size-fits-all” ; organizations are in different stages of their lifecycles, national and regional conditions present unique challenges and opportunities; population demographics are changing dramatically and each organization must adapt most efficiently to prepare for the future.  We work with each of our clients to blend our expertise with their knowledge of the industry and external environment as well as their knowledge of their infrastructure. 

At Capella we believe it is important to view strategic planning as a process:

·         It is both a present and a future look at your organization and its related environment 

·         It is the process of thinking about your organization as an integrated whole – a process during which your “planning team” considers three key questions

        ü  Where are we today?

        ü  Where do we desire to arrive and when?

        ü  How do we get from here to there?

 

·         It identifies the direction, but not the detailed means (tactical business plans) of achieving the integrated goals of the organization

 

Strategic planning is the process of defining and organizing the present and setting the direction to ensure the achievement of an organization’s goals for the future.
